The Grainery Tabletops
The Grainery’s existing tabletops were lasting only about two to two and a half years. For the replacements, KRDesigns and the owner chose marine-grade HDPE. Most of the square tops measure 36 by 36 inches and are made from ¾-inch-thick material.

Enough detail, without a deep groove.
The routed design took a couple of samples at different depths to get right. The goal was to add definition to an otherwise plain surface while keeping the grooves shallow enough to avoid creating deep pockets for food to collect.
A small detail designed around the people at the table.
Mike also designed channels that run out toward the corners—what he calls the “gutters.” His intent was for a spilled drink reaching those channels to travel toward a corner rather than directly toward someone seated at the table. It is a practical idea built into the routed pattern.
